British Blind Sport National Schools Swimming Gala 2007
On Wednesday 14 th March a team of 7 swimmers representing the Toynbee School Sport Partnership travelled to Worcester to compete in the BBS National Schools Swimming Gala. Teams from all over England and Scotland were competing and as ever, the standard was very high and the rivalry fierce. Races were organised according to age and sight classification (PS – partially sighted; B1 – totally blind), with open events and events for swimmers with additional disabilities (XD).

All of the Toynbee swimmers gave 100% in their races, achieving some excellent results and many new personal bests (PB) were recorded.

Congratulations to all swimmers, especially those who gained PB’s, to Dairmuid Ware, Patrick Dunn and Dan Cook for becoming national champions and a special well done must go to Dan Cook who has retained his title as national champion for three consecutive years.

On behalf of all the all the swimmers can I thank Mrs. Drawbridge, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Barnes and Warren Pomery for all their help in arranging the day and for their support at the event.

A Call for Potential Swimmers!

If you have a visual impairment or other disability and would like the opportunity to compete in either the British Blind Sport gala or in regional galas for the English Federation of Disability Sport please contact Mr. Carter via the Toynbee School resource Centre for Pupils with a Visual Impairment. Who knows, you could be swimming for Great Britain in the 2012 Paralympics.

The tournament which was run in two partnership pools saw some very close matches. Winners for the Toynbee SSP Trophy were Toynbee Sports College and Runners up were Thornden School. Both school teams will now go onto the State Secondary School County competition on Wednesday 14th March at HMS Collingwood as representative teams for the partnership in the developing schools competition and Crestwood College also go through in the new schools category.

Good Luck to all teams!

Key Steps Gymnastics - 1st March 2007
Schools from the Thornden Family took part the first Toynbee School Sport Partnership Key Steps Gymnastics Celebration of Performance on Thursday 1st March 2007. A total of 60 boys and girls from across years 1, 2 and 3 all performed a routine based on the gymnastic elements they had been taught over the past two terms in front of an audience of parents and teachers.

Pupils from Thornden School also performed a great gymnastics display at the event and also helped out by coordinating the warm up session, working with pupils on activities and organising equipment.
The project which was coordinated by Competition Manager Joanne Cridland was part of England Gymnastics new competition framework which looks at incorporating body management, floor and vault exercises to develop core skills in the first tier of the gymnastics pathway. New school-club links were also strengthened with Horizon Gymnastics Club and Treasure Gymnastics Club through coaches delivering sessions at the schools.

County Basketball Finals - 13th February 2007
