Special Provision

Toynbee is proud of its reputation for providing a challenging learning environment for all of its pupils.

There are many gifted, able and talented pupils at Toynbee and for these young people each teacher has a special responsibility to provide work that challenges them. We also have a special programme of enrichment which includes curricular extension, confidence building work-shops and educational visits (residential and during the school day).

Pupils across the ability range also benefit from Special Educational Needs provision, and at Toynbee there is a dedicated learning support team for individual and small group work. In addition, pupils in most need also receive one to one support in the classroom so that they can access the wider curriculum. It is always the intention that as soon as pupils feel confident of being able to manage their own work, then they are fully integrated into timetable lessons with their peers.

As the designated Hampshire Secondary School for pupils with visual impairment, there are pupils in each year group who need support with accessing the whole range of teaching and learning materials. A separate resource centre is sited centrally on the campus where this work is prepared and from where the team of support staff play a pro-active role in helping these pupils, whilst at the same time encouraging an increasing level of independence.
