Out of the Classroom

Every year hundreds of Toynbee pupils get the opportunity to participate in a wide range of visits. In R.E. pupils are introduced to the places of worship for a wide range of faiths; Textiles Technology students visit the Clothes Show annually; drama students spend three days in Stratford on a theatre workshop, and pupils with a particular interest in History visit various sites of special curricular relevance - in the UK and in Europe . Geography students undertake field trips within the Borough, and annually at Compton where a local resident has been so impressed with our pupils over the years and she awards annual prizes for the best studies. Year Seven pupils all have the opportunity to visit France or Germany each summer, and those taking languages to exam level can become involved with exchanges at schools in these two countries.

Toynbee sports teams excel in a number of areas, gaining local, regional and national honours in Athletics, Cross Country, Basketball, Biathlon and Netball.

For several years the school has partnered Indian Valley Middle School in Pennsylvania and whilst in the US , Year Eight pupils have visited New York , Washington and Gettysburg before hosting their new friends from America back at Toynbee.

During the late summer term of each year, our timetable is suspended so that staff and pupils can involve themselves in a variety of activities that the routines of the school day make impossible. More than six hundred pupils opt to take part in such pursuits as fly fishing, horse riding, sailing, circus training, hill walking, sculpting, photography, newspaper editing ...the list varies from year to year.
