We are educating today's young people for tomorrow's world, and we take this role seriously. Our broad and balanced curriculum provide the frame work for our pupils to acquire to the best of our abilities the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values which will help them play a full and useful role in all aspects of adult society. Integrated with our academic curriculum is a well established pastoral programme. With a school day that is longer than the national average our pupils are encouraged to work hard and contribute to the wider academic and social life of the school. Our well qualified and experienced teaching staff have high expectations. Pupils experience different teaching and learning styles so that they can gain from different approaches and challenges. Whilst some pupils are widely gifted, some excel in one particular field, and we publicly celebrate all success so that it is positively acknowledged by pupils, teachers and parents. Cross-curricular literacy, numeracy and citizenship policies are well established.
The progress of each pupil is tracked throughout their time at Toynbee so that the most appropriate programme can be given. Those with specific learning difficulties benefit from a committed programme of educational support. Pupils who are able, gifted or talented in one area or across the curriculum enjoy a special programme of enrichment so that they achieve their full potential. College linked vocational courses are available in the upper school.
The door of the classroom is not where all of our learning begins or ends! Field studies, visits, after school clubs, our arts provision and foreign exchanges all play an important role in shaping each pupil's education and social development. Our school council, where pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, is an area of our Citizenship curriculum where pupils can really make a contribution to the school's working environment. |
